Courtney Love vs. Guitar Hero vs. Reality

First off, here’s what Courtney love spouted on her twitter today:

“not in twenty JILLION years would i EVER have allowed this and this islethal.” (sic)

and:

“we get NO money for this, travesty, Frances gets NO money for the rape.”

What is she talking about? Well, Kurt Cobain is featured as a playable character in Guitar Hero 5. Sounds like a reasonable thing to be upset about, right? Having your dead husband’s image used without consent? That what I thought for about half a second until I saw what the maker of Guitar Hero, Activision, had to say on the issue:

“Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain’s likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero® 5.”

As they say in the video game business Courtney, “pwned.”
